Birta

Connect OpenHands

OpenHands, the open-source coding agent from All Hands AI, uses Birta as a remote MCP server: an address you add once in its MCP settings, or with one command in the OpenHands CLI.

  1. 1. Open MCP servers in OpenHands

Open Customize → MCP Servers, choose Add custom server, and set Server Type to SHTTP.

  2. 2. Add the Birta connection

Name it Birta, paste this address as the URL and set Authentication to OAuth. Leave the client ID, secret and scopes empty:

    https://birta.dev/mcp

Choose Test connection, then save. The connection is available in conversations you start after that.

In the OpenHands CLI the same connection is one command:

openhands mcp add birta --transport http --auth oauth 'https://birta.dev/mcp'
  3. 3. Allow access

The first time OpenHands uses the connection, it opens Birta in your browser. Sign in — with the one-time code sent to your email or with your Google account — then allow access. OpenHands keeps its own access after that and connects on its own — there is no key to copy or paste.

  4. 4. How it works

OpenHands works on a draft of your site: it writes the pages file by file, starting from scratch or from a copy of a version you already published. Nothing reaches your site address while it does, which keeps serving the version you published last and shows nothing at all until the first one.

OpenHands publishes the draft itself once it considers the work done — you do not have to give it the go-ahead. It comes back with two addresses: your site address, which is the live site, and that version's own address, where you mark what you want changed straight on the page.

Tell OpenHands what to change, or leave remarks on the version's page and say you have — it makes the changes and publishes the next version.

Want to look before it goes live? Say so — ask OpenHands for a draft first and it gives you the draft's own address and waits for your word. The draft keeps that address round after round, so you refresh the page you already have open.

  5. 5. Check that it works

Ask OpenHands to list your Birta projects. If it can see them, the connection is ready and you can ask it to publish or update a site.
